Admissions Criteria
The following criteria are considered for admission to the Academy:
Overall Cognitive Ability: Full scale IQ must be within the average range.
Academic Skills:
Primary (Ages 5-7): Student must demonstrate basic academic concepts including knowledge of colors, shapes, numbers 1-10, and letter recognition. Student must be toilet trained.
Elementary Program (2nd- 5th): No more than 2 grade levels below in reading and/or math.
Middle School Program (6th - 8th): The middle school program prepares students to enter high school on a standard diploma track. The program is departmentalized by subjects. In Math, students must be able to multiply, divide, and solve problems involving fractions and decimals. In the area of reading and Language Arts, student will be required to read grade level chapter books and write 5 paragraph essays.
Verbal Ability: In order to benefit from our curriculum, students must demonstrate oral communication skills. Highpoint Academy is not an appropriate educational setting for students who are non-verbal.
Social/Behavioral
Highpoint Academy is not an appropriate educational setting for students who are not toilet trained, or manifest any aggressive, self-injurious, or violent behaviors. We do not allow ABA/RBT therapists to serve as a shadow during the school day. Highpoint Academy is not a suitable setting for students who require a one-to-one shadow.
