Highpoint Academy welcomes students of any race, color, sex, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion. We do not discriminate on this basis in admission or in any area of the school program. We set high standards for admission, seeking out students who will benefit from our curriculum and school environment.
The Admissions Evaluation
The student needs to arrive at the scheduled time. For safety reasons, the child must wear a mask at all times during the evaluation.
What should child bring the day of the evaluation:
Send your child a light snack and a jacket. It is not necessary to bring any school supplies.
What will the day be like:
Upon arrival, a staff member will do a temperature check. Parents are not allowed into the classroom during the evaluation. Our teachers will bring your child into the classroom and begin to establish rapport and help him/her acclimate to our staff and school. Your child will participate in different play and academic activities. He/she will be exposed to our programs as our teachers conduct an academic and behavioral assessment. Current grade levels in Math and Reading will be obtained using the Woodcock Johnson as well as other informal assessments. Areas that we look at is how well the child separates from the parent, ability to get along with peers and teachers, compliance, and ability to transition between activities.
How long will the evaluation last:
The evaluation takes approximately 1 hour. We ask that you remain on stand-by in case you have to pick up your child earlier. Some children become very anxious and have to be rescheduled for a later day.
When will we receive the results:
Within a week of the evaluation, the director will call the parent to discuss admissions results and if your child will be accepted into our program. If we find that Highpoint Academy can not meet your child's educational and social needs, we will discuss other educational options.
